A Possible Inspiration for a Future Venture

For those of you who don’t know, one of my single greatest goals in life is to start a non-profit organization, which will benefit those in some of the poorer countries of the world.  While listening to some presentations on how to get involved in the community where I live, a presenter mentioned, as a side note, an organization called BlueMarbles.org.

It is a great premise for a non-profit organization, and I have been trying to get more involved with the PR department.  There are a few things that could be altered with the way the organization is structured and the way their communication is facilitated with the public.  But again, it is a wonderful premise and if more people found such innovative ways to promote a better world we could possibly stop the deterioration of our wonderful “blue marble“.

I hope some of you will start giving blue marbles and even more importantly, be seeking to better our earth.  Visit BlueMarbles home page for more information.

A New Club Seeks for Diversity at Utah State

Middle East Club is Formed to Promote Awareness about the Region and the Culture

LOGAN, Utah–The USU Middle East Club (MEC), a newly formed club on campus, will now be meeting to provide awareness for the area of the Middle East and its culture. The club was started by USU students in an effort to create an area of studies based on the Middle East. Robert Jepson, the founder and president, started the group in order to emphasize student interest in the area. He also said, “The club is just the beginning. Eventually we want this to grow into a full-fledged area of study on campus.”

The MEC was formed in August 2009 by Jepson, who quickly sought support of teachers and fellow students. As interest and support grew the small group became the Middle East Club. The first meeting was held on Oct. 6 where eight officers were elected and sustained, and future meetings and schedules where discussed.

The MEC believes that by providing activities and discussions based on the Middle East, others will join the club and provide support for future plans. This philosophy has proved true so far. The club created a Facebook group before the first meeting and within a week 138 people had joined.

The MEC now meets weekly on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. in Old Main 121. The meetings vary in content from discussions based on developing circumstances in the Middle East, cultural activities, and lectures. The MEC is also offering Arabic lessons on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 3:30 p.m. in Old Main 117.

The next meeting will be the “Opening Social” on Thursday, Oct. 22 starting at 8 p.m., held in the Multipurpose Room of the Living Learning Center located in Building A. Refreshments will be served and an lesson on how to write your name in Arabic will be given.

Volunteer and Get Involved

If you are like me, you are a person looking to get involved, but never knowing exactly how to go about it. It is a difficult position, because you never know if a project is legitimate or if your help is really needed. For those of you who are feeling like this, I have the solution–Adventure Playground at the Whittier Center.
This project is a celebration of the Whittier School’s centennial.  A playground was proposed for the celebration and the children of the Whittier School came up with ideas for ways to make this playground accessible for all children–even those with disabilities.
The project will be everyday, during daylight hours, from September 14-19 held at the Whittier Center located at 290 North 400 East Logan, Utah. The project coordinators would like volunteers to sign up for shifts online at their website. They have also asked that volunteers bring tools in order to help the work go more smoothly.
If you are looking to help or need more information visit the project website and get involved!
